What is Happening:
Governor Matt Meyer is currently finalizing next year’s state budget, and essential services that thousands of Delawareans rely on could be at risk.
Home and Community-Based Services, like those offered by Easterseals, which help older adults and people with disabilities live safely at home and in their communities, must be protected.
If funding falls short, families may be forced to leave the workforce to care for loved ones. Individuals who rely on daily support could lose the stability and independence they’ve worked so hard to build. The state will also face higher costs as more people are pushed into institutional care.
Your Help is Needed Before December 31st, 2025:
Please take one minute to send a message to TODAY Governor Meyer, urging him to include funding for services for people with disabilities and seniors, like those offered by Easterseals. If you or your family receives services through Easterseals, be sure to share why those services are important to you.
Here are some talking points you can use in your email to Governor Meyer:
- Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) such as adult day programs for seniors, day services for adults with intellectual disabilities, respite for family caregivers, attendant care, and help with daily tasks must be protected.
- Funding for many of these programs has not been kept up for years, and people could lose the care they depend on.
- If these services falter, families may be forced to leave the workforce to care for loved ones, and individuals could lose the support that allows them to live safely and independently.
- Investing in HCBS saves the state money by preventing more expensive institutional placements and emergency interventions.
- Please prioritize strong funding for HCBS in this year’s budget to protect vulnerable Delawareans and the workers who support them.
Thank you for standing up for people with disabilities and seniors who depend on these critically needed services.
