Easterseals Delaware & Maryland’s Eastern Shore, a leading nonprofit dedicated to supporting individuals with disabilities, has announced that President/CEO Ken Sklenar will retire in December 2026. Sklenar, who has led the organization for 13 years, will continue to guide Easterseals through this transition period to ensure continued growth and excellence in providing services for children and adults with disabilities, seniors, and their families.
“We are deeply grateful for Ken’s leadership and contributions,” Chair of Easterseals' Board of Directors, Pierre Anderson, said. “Ken’s leadership has been marked by a deep commitment to Easterseals’ core values: inclusion, empowerment, and innovation. He has built a strong foundation for the future of the organization, and we remain unwavering in our commitment to delivering exceptional services and driving our mission forward throughout the leadership transition.”
Under Sklenar’s leadership, Easterseals has seen remarkable growth and success, both in the expansion of services and in maintaining top-tier accreditation by the Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities. Sklenar oversaw the expansion of Easterseals from six to eight locations and helped lead a multi-million-dollar campaign to complete essential projects that modernized and expanded Easterseals Camp Fairlee. He also guided the organization’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring that clients continued to receive critical services during program closures and leading efforts to rebuild operations once services resumed.
"Leading Easterseals has been the honor of my life,” Sklenar said. “I am incredibly proud of the work we do to support individuals and families in our communities, and I am deeply grateful for the extraordinary team we have at Easterseals. As I look ahead to my retirement, I remain confident that Easterseals will continue its mission to provide life-changing services to people with disabilities, and that our legacy of compassion and excellence will live on long after my tenure."
Easterseals has committed to a seamless leadership transition as Sklenar prepares for his retirement. The Board of Directors has formed a search committee to oversee the selection of a new CEO through a national search, with the goal of hiring a successor by the fall of 2026.
“We want to assure our staff, clients, and stakeholders that during this transition, our mission remains our top priority,” Anderson said. “Our team is dedicated to continuing the impactful work of Easterseals, and we are confident that, with the right leadership, Easterseals will continue to be the premier provider of services for individuals with disabilities for many years to come.”
